I have not updated in a while due to reasons concerning stuff, however, I do feel the need to share the joy of Halloween.
In case you're wondering, that's one of the few days you're allowed to dress up like vampires and get away with it.
And in fact, Mr Thompson and I dressed as Bella Swan and Edward Cullen.
As you can see from the picture, Mr Thompson went a little crazy with his glitter.
You can't say it's just girls who like shiny things, because look at that boy.
Rhinestones and sparkles galore!
Taylor Lautner recently revealed that all these shirtless photos embarrass him. Since I find this hard to believe, seeing as he almost never wears a shirt anymore, I feel it is time for some fan service.
As in, show lots of pictures of Taylor Lautner without proper clothing.
Let's begin.
This image is from the New Moon film. As you can see, he is in full Jacob Black mode, as he is not wearing a shirt.
Seeing as this is an action still, you will probably see all the action in the film. In other words, he will be walking—which does require flexing muscles—without that shirt on.
So after purchasing Twilight on Blu-ray from Amazon, they sent me an email.
“Hello favorite customer,” said Amazon, “you can watch the first episode of The Vampire Diaries for free on Amazon because we love you so much!”
“Thanks, Amazon!” I said, “What a great pal you are!”
So I watched it, because I don’t have TV, and free shows on the internet are nice sometimes.
I found myself comparing it to Twilight, of course. Though since I haven’t read the book version of The Vampire Diaries, I don’t think I can make the fairest comparison.
My friend Dom (Team Edward Extraordinaire) started to read the series, but didn’t like it because Elena, the non-vampire the vampires lust after, wasn’t nice like Bella. This convinced me that I probably wouldn’t like it either.
So I checked out Dragon*Con in Atlanta over the weekend. In case you aren’t familiar with this one, I’ll just say it’s got sci-fi/fantasy/paranormal/comics/video games/romance/mythology/good times. So you’ll see a lot of people dressed as various characters.
And I said to myself, ‘There must be some Twilight fans in attendance! There must!’
And I was right.
I made an appearance at the Yule Ball, a Harry Potter themed dance, and found not only Potterheads, but some Twihards too.
There was an interesting turn of events that took place when someone decided to show some Twilight remix music videos however. Apparently some Potterheads do not like Twilight. It would also appear that some were annoyed at there being Twilight stuff at a Harry Potter dance, yo! What up with that?
What is it with Hollywood and all their ‘look these two are dating’ ‘oh no they’re not’ ‘oh they broke up’ ‘no they’re still dating’ nonsense.
Like with Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson.
Sure, they play lovers in a film franchise, and are clearly very close, so I suppose people like to think they’re dating, but they have told the media that they are not.
So why can’t they just leave it at that?
So you want to read the book?
Well, guess what? You better go ahead and buy it, because the libraries have waiting lists a mile long.
I happen to work in a library, so I know.
Customer: “Where are the Twilight books?”
Librarian: “Those have waiting lists. Which one did you want to read?”
Customer: “The first one.”
Librarian: “Okay, you would be number 546 in line.”
Customer: “Uh?”
Librarian: “Yeah, they’re right popular, they are.”
And so.
Now, if you’re willing to wait, go ahead and add your name to the list and hope your information is updated so they can notify you when it’s ready. Otherwise . . .
Well, if you liked the movie, you will like the book, so cough up a few bucks and buy it.
I thought about adding my name to the list . . . but then people kept gushing over them, so I just went ahead and bought it, because that is what I do (bad librarian, I know).
This is a purchase I do not regret.
I love my Twilight books.
They’re pretty and shiny.
Ah, Dakota Fanning, the critically acclaimed child star.
A lot of people think she’s creepy. I know, I saw the facebook groups.
This could potentially mean she’s perfect for the role of Jane, the creepy vampire of the Volturi sect who likes to hurt people.
But what do the fans think? Let’s check out Entertainment Weekly.
“She is perfect,” says Anonymous One, “She is amazing and I think she will play this role well.”
“I really like her,” says Anonymous Two, “she is a really great actress.”
“No she isn’t right... she doesn’t have the right look... Anna Sophia Robb should play Jane ...” claims Malcontent One
“A big ‘NO’ for the Dakota Fanning casting!” says Malcontent Two.
Kristen Stewart.
You all know her now, the beautiful Twilight girl, Bella Swan.
I often find that actors fall short of impressing me. It is amazing how many films I don’t want to see because so-and-so stars in it, rendering it absolute crap.
However, I like Kristen Stewart.
She doesn’t look exactly how I imagined Bella, but she does a good job playing her and fits the description, and she and Robert Pattinson have some serious chemistry (at least in my opinion, though I’m sure there are many who concur).
And I love it when people compliment her looks, because I hear people say to me all the time, ‘hey, you look like Kristen Stewart! You look like you should be in Twilight!’
And that makes me smile.
I was meandering around online, as I am wont to do, and I found guys saying on message boards, ‘she’s one of the reasons I don’t mind watching Twilight.’
Oh, how I love that Twilight has made the pale dark haired girl more attractive in the eyes of so many!
"Hi, Edward, this is Bella, the only girl you ever showed the slightest amount of interest in.
"I'm looking up at you all adoringly because for some reason I am madly in love with you.
"So, what the hell is your problem?
"Why are you brooding right now? Now is not the time to be brooding. I know you like brooding; it's sort of your signature activity and you've been doing it for most of the century, but honestly, do you not see how cute I am right now? Does my cuteness not alleviate some of the misery that is being sparkly, ridiculously strong, telepathic, and immortal?
I love Twilight.
Okay, so yes, I am a girl, and yes, I act like a teenager, but I know there are plenty of people who are neither and like the Super-hyped Twilight Saga.
“I’m a guy and I like Twilight . . . is that weird?”
“It was much better than I thought it would be.”
“I really like the vampire mythology.”
Sure, the main storyline is romance, but look at all the ‘guy’ movies that have romantic elements.
Trust me; there are a lot of them.
And there is action and blood in Twilight as well.
I wasn’t sure I would like it, but then I started the first book . . . and after an hour or so ran out to buy the rest of the series.
I lent it to a coworker, and pretty soon all we could talk about was Edward, Bella and the rest.
And how we wanted to be vampires too.
Then the movie came out.
I wasn’t sure I would like the movie.
But I did.
My favorite book of the series is, of course, New Moon.
I love it because not only are there vampires, but there are werewolves.
I don’t know if anyone has noticed, but graphic novels are hot these days. They aren’t just for nerd boys anymore. It’s getting harder and harder to make fun of people for liking comic books, because now, comic books are a cultural phenomenon.
In fact, people are making graphic novels of classic and popular books. There are Shakespeare graphic novels, Dean Koontz ones, Anthony Horowitz ones, James Patterson ones . . . so it is only natural that The Twilight Saga is now going to become available in graphic novel format.
It will be published by Yen Press and will feature beautiful artwork by Korean artist Young Kim. Stephenie Meyer is taking a great deal of interest in the project and is even reviewing each panel, so all signs point to it being true to the book.
I often dislike the artwork in graphic novels. I think it’s often way too exaggerated and creepy.
Personally, I prefer Jacob. I do realize I am in the minority here. I have a friend who hates him and drools over Edward’s long suffering strong and silent appeal. And okay, vampires are more classically sexy than werewolves (why dead people are more attractive than those who turn in to animals I do not know; it must just be human nature), but . . . I—just—love—him— I mean, Edward was interesting at first; he was so mysterious and aloof. But then Bella got to know him quite well and it is hard to keep being mysterious and aloof when that happens. So, naturally, he was rendered un-mysterious and approachable, at least to the readers and viewers. Jacob’s appeal, however, is that he’s friendly, boyishly charming, loving and enjoys a good laugh. That never gets old! My friend would say, ‘but he’s so immature and he whines!’ To which I reply, ‘well, he is younger, and he’s the third in a love triangle; come on, who doesn’t whine in that situation?’ Also, Jacob can fix motorcycles. Edward can pay people to do that; but you take away his money, and what is there?
I have such high hopes for you. You are my favorite book of the series. You have a great cast. You will have more Jacob Black. You will have Bella acting all depressed and then going to Italy and whatnot. And motorcycles and cliff-diving. In short, I think you have a lot of potential. You will also have a new director. I am not going to say the director for Twilight, Catherine Hardwicke, was bad, because that is not what I am getting to at all. But think of the Harry Potter franchise. Chris Columbus directed the first two, and they were very enjoyable. Then Alfonso Cuaron directed the third one and I nearly wet myself it was so good (when I say wet myself, I mean I was on the verge of tears, not that I had drippy drawers). Part of that was also because I liked the third book better than the first two. Part of it, though, was that he had a new and unique vision that he brought to the film. My dream is that this sort of thing will happen for you too. Chris Weitz will be directing you. He has a very varied and eclectic career. He even directed The Golden Compass, another one of my favorites, though it did not become a smash hit.
